At Central Station you take the ferry to Amsterdam North for free, where you will be surprised by the renewed and cool character of the neighborhood. But you will also find nice neighbourhoods and green surroundings in Noord.
For example, a favourite place for many in North is the NDSM; a very exciting and hip part of Amsterdam. It used to be an abandoned shipyard, but now it has become a place full of great initiatives. With its concrete and rusty appearance, it reminds you of Berlin and with the arrival of all festivals, the street art museum, artists’ initiatives and nice catering places, it has become a source of creativity.
If you are going to visit Amsterdam, you should definitely visit the NDSM wharf. For example, you can go (vintage) shopping in the famous IJ halls, in the summer you can visit the open air cinema and you can go to great festivals (such as DGTL). There is also plenty of catering, such as Pllek and De IJ canteen.
