Schipperskwartier & het Eilandje

The ‘Schipperskwartier’ is a real working-class neighbourhood right next to the center of Antwerp. This neighbourhood used to be known as the prostitution area, but this is now limited to just four streets. The Schipperskwartier has developed considerably in recent years with the reconstruction of new streets and squares and it is also a area to visit between the center and ‘het Eilandje’.

Because ‘het Eilandje’ is also a very nice area in Antwerp; perhaps even the best? The area was originally known as the harbor area, but nowadays you will find great sights, the best restaurants, coffee bars and so on.

For example, visit the Museum aan de Stroom, which – not entirely out of place – revolves around the history, international trade, shipping and art and culture of the port city. Don’t feel like entering the museum? The building itself is already worth a visit! The same goes for the Red Star Line Museum and the Port House; real eye-catchers and more than worth it.
