The Zeeheldenkwartier is perhaps the nicest district in The Hague. It has an overload of cool hotspots; from a restaurant with its own brewery to the tastiest sushi spot.. Because this district borders the center, it is very easy to reach as well.
Curious which food hotspots you really shouldn’t miss in the Zeeheldenkwartier? Then quickly read my list below.
1. Sushimeisjes

Sushi lovers pay attention! Ever tasted the sushi of the Sushimeiden? Trust me, you will never want to eat it anywhere else. This trendy hotspot can be found in a cozy building in the middle of the Prins Hendrikstraat, which runs right through the Zeeheldenkwartier. You can sit here on the beautiful terrace (including Bali umbrellas and plants!) or inside at a table/bar for lunch or dinner.
The menu holds lots of tasty options! My favourites are the Umami roll (eggplant tempura, salmon, miso mayo, avocado, unagi sauce & furikake) and the Torched Tuna roll (tempura asparagus, avocado, tuna, truffle mayonnaise & sesame seeds), but the sushi mix (30 pieces, 2 people) is always good too. They also have vegan sushi options and it’s even possible to go here as a pregnant woman.
Can’t stay? You can also order or pick up these delicious rolls.

Prins Hendrikstraat 96, 2518 HW Den Haag
2. Tommy’s & Zuurveen
You can find this gem on the edge of the Zeeheldenkwartier, on the Veenkade. It’s the ultimate place for a fancy culinary masterpiece, as the dishes look beautiful (and delicious!). The chef has previously worked in a star restaurants, which definitely shows!
You can eat à la carte (think of tuna with goose liver and ponzu or candied peel with potato) but we recommended to try the 3-course surprise menu (€35). Your taste buds will thank you!
Fun fact: Tommy’s & Zuurveen has been included in the “Lekker guide 2021” this year; a list of the best restaurants in the Netherlands.
You can now also get the culinary dishes from Tommy’s & Zuurveen at home via Deliveroo.

3. Vincenzo’s

Photo: Sabine Berger @sabineberger
You may already know Vincenzo’s from the article The best pizza in The Hague; a busy and instagrammable hotspot on the Prins Hendrikstraat. The atmosphere, food and service are great and the interior is perfect to get some good Instagram shots.
My favourite pizza here? The Crudo e Tartufo with mozzarella, parma ham, arugula, parmesan and white truffle oil. They also have delicious homemade limocello.
Tip: you can also order the tasty pizzas from Vincenzo’s or get them for take away.
Address
Prins Hendrikstraat 75, 2518 HL Den Haag
4. Vincenzo’s Osteria
Did someone say pasta?! As a pasta lover, you have come to the right place at Vincenzo’s Osteria. Delicious food, a relaxed atmosphere and casual service. You can choose to order à la carte, but they also offer a fixed three-course menu for €35. The menu is small, but anything but boring.
What can you expect? A starter of swordfish carpaccio with antibiosis and capers, a main course of pappardelle cinghiale with wild boar and to finish a delicious dulce de leche with plums, hazelnuts and orange. Amazing!
Would you rather enjoy all these goodies at home? Fortunately, you can also order via Thuisbezorgd.

Tasmanstraat 129, 2518 VL Den Haag
5. Wicked Wines
Wicked Wines is a wine bar and restaurant, which you can find on the beautiful Anna Paulowna Square. Besides the fact that it’s the perfect place for a drink (especially in the summer on the terrace!), you can also enjoy delicious food here. Expect tasty sushi rolls, spring rolls, curry and the tastiest bites.
Tip: they offer various dinner and drink boxes for at home, such as the Experience Box with six courses and a bottle of wine, or the Sushi Box with tasty sushi rolls, sashimi and Wakame salad.
Address
Bazarstraat 42, 2518 AK Den Haag
6. Gastropub & Brouwerij Van Kinsbergen
It is a mix of a Dutch café and an English gastropub. Not a dark pub with only beer, but a fresh hotspot with an extensive menu and many (special) beers.
Choose dishes to share such as bitterballen, nachos or jalapeno poppers, or choose something from their “Fancy pub food”, such as the Van Kinsburger with twister fries with parmesan & truffle.
In addition, Van Kinsbergen is also the place to be for beer, rum or whiskey tastings. Great for an outing with friends in The Hague!
Would you rather bring Van Kinsbergen into your home? This can be done very easily via Thuisbezorgd or 06-14638309.

7. Het Balihuisje
It’s the definition of a trendy toko, where it is all about satay and gado gado. Het Balihuisje has opened this year, but is already well known among the people of The Hague. The restaurant has an urban look and when the sun shines you can have a seat on their terrace.
Would you like to get the Bali house at home? No problem! You can order via 070-4062162.
Address
Piet Heinstraat 62, 2518 CJ Den Haag
8. Plenty
Another favourite is PLENTY, a very nice vegan lunch spot where the Bali vibes are real. All dishes are 100% plant based and a lot of time and love is put into it. This results in delicious pancakes (made from spelt flour, with hazelnut caramel and baked apples!) and sourdough bread with tempeh, avocado or mushrooms, just to name a few.
Tip: Fan of matcha? Then be sure to try the PLENTY matcha latte!
Address
Piet Heinstraat 37, 2518 CB Den Haag
9. Single Estate Coffee Roasters
This coffee bar is a must try and as soon as you step inside you will understand why. Everything is taken care of down to the last detail; from the minimalist Scandinavian interior to the most delicious puff pastry snacks they bake in their bakery.
And then of course we have the coffee. There is plenty of choice, from the espresso machine or filter, prepared with their own coffee beans. Coffee lovers, this one is for you!
Address
Piet Heinstraat 15, 2518 CB Den Haag
10. Pim Coffee Sandwiches & Vintage
Another nice addition to the Prins Hendrikstraat is Pim Coffee Sandwiches & Vintage. A mouthful, but that’s because they are amazingly versatile.
In addition to the extensive drinks menu (read: chai lattes, fresh tea flavors, coffees in all shapes and sizes and smoothies), this is the place for toasties.
Toasties? Hell yes! With all kinds of combinations of cheeses, meats and veggies, they make the best grilled sandwiches here.
Address
Prins Hendrikstraat 113, 2518 HM Den Haag
11. bijClarence
For a tasty, filling lunch with good coffee you can go to bijClarence, of course also on the Piet Heinstraat in the Zeeheldenkwartier.
With a casual atmosphere, you can order tasty omelets, sandwiches and soups here. Our tip: end your lunch with one of their delicious homemade cakes!

Piet Heinstraat 60, A, 2518 CJ Den Haag
