1. Mauritshuis

In het Mauritshuis in Den Haag bewonder je de beste schilderijen die Nederland kent, zoals die van Rembrandt en Vermeer.

The Mauritshuis is home to a number of absolute gems of Dutch art. Here you’ll find paintings by the world famous Rembrandt and Vermeer, such as Vermeer’s “Girl with a Pearl Earring” and “The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp” by Rembrandt.

For the true art and history enthusiast, this is one of the must-see spots on your list.

2. Panorama Mesdag

It’s already in the name; in this museum in The Hague you can visit an impressive panoramic artwork by Mesdag. Mesdag painted the surroundings of Seinpostduin in a cylindrical shape, measuring no less than 14 meters high and 120 meters in circumference.

3. Escher in Het Paleis

Het Escher in Het Paleis museum in Den Haag is geheel gewijd aan het werk van de Nederlandse Maurits Cornelis Escher. Het museum is gevuld met meer dan 150 prenten van zijn oeuvre.

This museum is entirely dedicated to the work of the Dutch Maurits Cornelis Escher. The museum is filled with more than 150 prints of his oeuvre. In addition to his famous prints and earlier work of Italian landscapes, there is an interactive exhibition that plays with realism.

4. GEM, museum for contemporary art

In het GEM museum in Den Haag kun je het werk bekijken van zowel opkomend talent als gevestigde namen, zoals dat van kunstenares Emma Talbot.

GEM was set up by the Kunstmuseum Den Haag as the place to admire contemporary art. The work of both emerging talent and established names are exhibited here in three exhibitions per year.

8. Try the Escape Rooms in The Hague with your friends

Are you good at solving riddles and puzzles? Then an Escape Room is probably just the thing for you. In this game you have one hour to go from clue to clue, in order to escape the room within time. A fun activity to do with your friends, family or colleagues.

For example, try one of the five VR Escape Rooms at AmazeVR, where you escape with Virtual Reality glasses. Prefer to try the traditional Escape Room? Try the game of Operation Exit The Hague, which is located in a beautiful old building and tells the story of Baron van Hagesteijn and his country house.

 

9. Enjoy a cup of coffee in one of the coffee bars in The Hague

De dag beginnen doe je bij Hometown koffie. Want niet alleen hebben ze hier havermout, smoothies en breakfast bowls, ze hebben ook een uitgebreide keuze uit koffies, slow coffees en ijskoffies.

One of our favourite things to do when it rains is shopping, because you don’t necessarily have to go through the rain. Go shopping in the Passage; a national monument in the middle of the city with various shops.

12. Go surfing in Scheveningen

For the active ones among us, there are also plenty of options in The Hague. Have you ever tried water sports? Or are you already an experienced water sports enthusiast? A few minutes from the center is Scheveningen beach, where you can surf, windsurf, paddle board and you name it.

You can simply book a lesson through various surf schools. For example via this surf school, where they teach you how to ride your first wave in two hours!

 

13. Visit a beach bar in Scheveningen

Een van de leukste strandtenten in Scheveningen is toch wel Indigo. Super kleurrijk, lekker eten en een fijne sfeer!

Is a surf lesson a bit too active for you? Then a relaxed beach club in Scheveningen might be more your thing.

For instance, visit Indigo, where it’s always as if you’re on vacation. The beach tent is decorated with lanterns, fire poles, wooden outdoor bars and a colorful terrace, which creates an amazing atmosphere.

14. Visit the coast of Kijkduin

Kijkduin is net als Scheveningen een stukje vakantie in eigen land. Deze buurt aan de kust biedt alles voor een dagje, weekendje of langere tijd weg.

In addition to Scheveningen, The Hague has another seaside area: Kijkduin. Kijkduin is a lot smaller and therefore ideal for a quieter day at the beach.

Take a walk through the dunes, explore the area by bike or enjoy a breath of fresh air on the beach.

 

15. Get on your bike and tour through The Hague

One of the best ways to experience The Hague is by bicycle. The means of transport of almost every Dutch person and therefore an easy and convenient way to get from A to B.

If you don’t know the city that well yet, it is of course a great idea to join an organized tour. They will tell you all the ins and outs of The Hague and show you the best spots.

17. Madurodam

Madurodam is een museum vol met honderden miniaturen die Nederland weergeven, en waar je als een “reus” doorheen kan wandelen.

At Madurodam you can visit the whole country in a short time. How is that possible you might wonder? The park is full of hundreds of miniatures depicting the Netherlands! It is also full of things to do, making it a fun attraction for children.

The buildings you encounter come from historic inner cities, port areas, airports, modern neighbourhoods, nature reserves and you name it. You will also find miniature cars, planes and boats.

18. Go ice skating or skiing in the Uithof

Voor het echte wintergevoel ga je natuurlijk schaatsen. In De Uithof in Den Haag is de 400 meter schaatsbaan van oktober t/m maart geopend. In De Uithof kan je ook skiën, snowboarden, klimmen, karten en lasergamen. Genoeg leuke dingen dus voor een regenachtige dag!

Whether you want to skate, snowboard, ski, go-kart, climb, laser game; it’s all possible at De Uithof. This huge indoor center offers all kinds of activities all year round.

For example, take a lesson in skiing or put on your skates and skate laps on the 400 meter ice track. Also an ideal place for an outing with your friends or colleagues.

19. Go for a day trip to Rotterdam

De iconische Euromast in Rotterdam. Vanaf hier heb je een prachtig uitzicht over Rotterdam.

Do you feel like going beyond The Hague? Then visit Rotterdam. It is only half an hour by car and with the RandstadRail (Metro line E) you are there in no time!

Visit the iconic Euromast, Cube Houses and taste some goodies at the Markthal. There is plenty to do and see in Rotterdam!
